Shooting yourself in the spfile

Shooting yourself in the spfile

Well, heck, I 'm sure there 's a lot more things that I should be ashamed of myself for not knowing than there is for you! :)

Actually, I 'm surprised I remembered this since I first learnt about it when I was running the 9i New Features for Administrators training when that came out. I thought all the brain cells I had that were that old died off under the influence of drunken Oak Table meetings (or is that a tautology?) :)

Well, if you go back to my original note, you 'll find that I
*did* have a current init.ora file to fall back on. After I
screwed up my spfile, I restarted the instance using my
init.ora file.

What I 'm ashamed of is not knowing that I could have issued
a CREATE PFILE command with my instance sitting idle. That
important fact has somehow eluded me until now.
